is 1/4" over max on oil dipstick too much?

Well, obviously it's too much but is it enough warrant draining it a bit?

yes. BUUUUTT ya gotta be careful because the asshat that designed the draining system made damn sure it all comes out at once.

That's why you unscrew the bolt slowly. And to much oil is very bad

It's because the oil is now up to the crank and adding restriction to it's rotation.

I took it back to the shop that overfilled it and they quickly fixed the level for me.

Didn't even have to get out my ramps!

good to hear. Personally I always recommend to DIY the easy stuff like oil and coolant. I just picked up another b5 to deal with and the PO took it to MIDAS and now I have to flush all the coolant because they put the green **** in with G12...
