Default 1.8t bad engine? Rebuild question

I am looking at buying a 01 1.8t 180k with a bad engine. The guy said he was driving the car and it started misfiring and the oil pressure light came on. I am assuming this is a sludge problem? Anyway can the engine be rebuilt or does it need a whole new one(used one)?

well ill just like to say, if it is a sludge problem, due to a class action law suit, u may get reimbursement from Audi for a new motor. 50% without maintenance records.

That would be nice. Is there anyway to tell by looking at it w/o tearing anything apart?

i personally dont know enough about the motors nor codes, but most people would tell you to take it to an Audi certified mechanic to have it looked at.

may cost u around 50-80, depending on the mechanic maybe free, however that's gonna be a small price to pay considering what you may have to spend to fix it..
