1.8t Oil Service Light
Car: 2000 Audi A4 1.8t sedan 5sp manual
Mileage: 51,000 kms (~30,000 miles)
I am considering buying this car. However, when the car is started up, the main LCD reads "Service!" then shows the red oil light, then the red coolant light, all on the main LCD. Does this simply mean that the oil is in need of a change, or does it imply an oil level/pressure problem? Same for the coolant: does the coolant level just need to be checked because the car has reached a service interval?
Also, the car has service records showing that it was only serviced every ~2 years and ~10,000 kms (~6,000 miles). Do you think there will be an issue with sludge build-up?

Sounds like either you need to top them off, or you're seeing (in the case of the oil light) the periodic service reminder. It's programmed in the car and turns on every so often based on miles driven since the last time it came on, as a reminder for inattentive owners that they need to do an oil change, tire rotation, etc. If you search the forum and/or Google, you'll find the specific instructions on resetting it on your car.
