Default 1.8T sludge question..?

Hey newer audi pro's got a question for you. what would you guys say the average mileage would be at when a 1.8t gets sludge? My girlfriend wants to pickup an a4 avant 1.8t with 170k on the clock, really clean and has receipts for everything done to it, including all oil changes and everything...

..so yeah... thats about it..

Sorry if this is noobish. I know alot more about older audi's hence why I own 4.. of them...

heres the ad if you guys want..

Mileage aside,

I wouldn't go longer than 6 months before changing the oil and filter. I usually go about 3-4000 kilometers on a 6 month period.

mileage is irrelevant. 95% of it depends on how the car was maintained, what fluids and filters were used, how regularly the oil was changed, etc. do it right and your car will last 250k miles easy. do it wrong and you can trash an engine in under 50k miles.

take the oil filler cap off and have a look at the inside of it. If the motor was neglected and it has sludge, there will be goop all over it.

second. you gotta know the details of how the engine was treated. best way i can put it is when your lookin for a girl, you want the hottest one you can find, obviously, but the one thats been taken care of. even if she has had sex with five dudes, they could be a really nasty five dudes. you want a car that has had maintence regularly but has stayed outta trouble. sludge (aka std's) are a problem that, with the right remedy, can be corrected, but its better to steer away from it. you can get rid of sludge for good, but a complete engine teardown is in order.

forgot to add, if the oil changes were full synthetic and every 3-5000 miles you should be good...

lol im glad sludge was compared to STD's. with some cars you have to double bag it and throw away the sheets.

that seller seems to have a whole history of the car. also see how clean the engine bay is? it was either professionally done or they did it themselves. i'd go for it since the TB was done at 155k. i'd go for it but talk about the prices a little. i wouldn't pay more than 5k. make sure ask why the rear pads were replaced at 15k. that sounds a little fishy. good luck
