1.8T sludge question..?
#11
"you can get rid of sludge for good, but a complete engine teardown is in order."
Wrong
A teardown is not in order.
Drain oil. Place diesel fuel in oil crank case about 3 litres
Crank start the engine. If it starts up let it run for EXACTLY 2 seconds
Drain the crap out... Let the car sit for 24 hours with plugs out, oil cap off and drain plug off.
Place new synthetic oil (0W30)
new oil filter
Run for 100kms at highway speeds 70MPH + or 120kms
Drain oil out
Change oil filter and put new oil in.
Done!!!!!
It takes a bit of time but it's way faster than a teardown and cheaper AND it works!

thats why you disconnect the coils before attempting that. you can crank it but do NOT start the engine. you also need to add one more step to that-
right after you let it sit over night...
fill it with oil and new filter and run it for a few minutes. then shut it off and drain the oil. then refill it and proceed to the rest.
diesel has a much higher flash point then gasoline and 24 hours would not be long enough to get it out of the engine. you dont want to have that much fuel in your oil for 100km. actually if you had an EOA done they would find lots of hydrocarbons for the next several oil changes. you definitely want to flush it more then once.

You guys are absolutely right. I was late for work and in a rush so YES, you should
1. disconnect the coils (but it will most likely give you a CEL which is why I didn't want to mention it)
and
2. You should fill it up with new oil after letting it sit for 24 hours (WAYYYY longer than overnight) and then drain it after running it for, I'd say 15 to 20 minutes with a good rev here and there to get of everything. Then drain and replace the filter and oils for the last time.

yah i know desiel can get rid of sludge, but it really isnt the safest/most thorough way. i have never heard of running that much though. i suppose if the engine isnt running it could be fine. i have been told to take out a quart of oil and replace it with deisel and run it for ten minutes, but it just sounds risky.

If you have the ***** to go through with it you'll be very impressed with the results. Just be sure to Change the oil twice and even three times in the next month so that you don't score your cylinders. This WILL work and it IS cheaper than a teardown and rebuild. Even if you change your oils 8 times in a weak lol.
