I have a 1.8T with 78k on it to my knowledge everything is stock in the car expect for a couple of thing's Ive done to it.Like HID's and exterior mod's but nothing to the engine at all. And every where i go everyone say's that my turbo is super loud i have driven car's that have upgraded turbo's and sometimes I can barley hear them and also car's that have the T3/T4 and their not as loud as this one so is that normal for the 1.8T turbo's?


BTW reason why Im asking this is because i wanna chip it by the end of this year and i don't want a turbo blowing up on me when i test the tune out.Will try and post a sound clip of it this weekend.

 

Personally I don't think they are that loud, but I have heard more than a few turbos in my day...

 

The k03 should be almost silent if everything is stock. You probably have some shaft play-which would be surprising at 78k. The more off-balanced it gets, the louder it gets. I wouldn't let that hold you back from chipping it. I have 115k on my car. Was chipped at about 80k and test piped at 90k which made the turbo louder... But it has become extremely loud within the last 15k miles due to shaft play. I expect to replace it this winter. Some people aren't going to like this- but when the time comes, I'm getting THIS.

I'll be the guinea pig. Whats the worst that could happen.... It grenades shooting into my intake manifold, bits of shrapnel are ingested into the engine, valves are bent, engine seizes...

Really, I don't think thats going to happen. This is not some made in China stuff. These guys are just rebuilding k03's in NC.

onepoint8tee, not sure if you've seen this before but elballoonrat over at vortex has been running an ebay turbo/parts for about 10k miles now without any major issues
