17psi Now what?
The forum's been dead for a while now, so I figured I'd wake it up.
I bought an ECU (tuned for my car specifically) with the following:
re-mapped timing
re-mapped fuel delivery
top speed limiter delete
Redline bumped up to 7100 RPM
Boost increased to 17 psi
New (forged) Diverter valve
It ended up being a 45+ hp increase, so I'm putting about 200 hp to the wheels (from what I'm told).
The change is dramatic...and I love it. It's still a great DD and I've had no problems with it at all.
I've already bought a new fuel pump & filter. My timing set is new and all gaskets, vacuum hoses and many sensors are all new.
The question is: Am I missing anything? Do any of you guys who have highly boosted AWMs (or whatever) have any input on the subject?
Thanks

No. The numbers come from mathematical equations, but it's obvious that it's outputting FAR MORE than the stock 170 hp
I would love to get it Dynoed. I'd bet it's laying down more than 200 hp. Unfortunately, I don't know of any places around me that have a true Dyno. Once I find one, I'll post up the print-out, but who knows when that'll be?
I can tell you this though: My girl and I were bringing home some pizza for the boys the first weekend after the tune and that new $30K 200 hp Scion FR-S coupe pulled up next to us at the last big intersection (which is about a mile from my street).
It just so happened to be a middle aged guy, struggling to hang on to his youth. Window down, bumping his stock stereo. Playin' it cool for the chicks. The perfect test, right?
I didn't provoke him at all, but ever since I put the 20"s on my car, it seems everyone wants to street race me. He was no exception, so I was ready for him, just in case.
The light turned green and he sure as hell took off on me. As soon as I dropped the hammer, it was over. By the time I wound out 1st gear, I was ahead and with every gear change, he fell farther and farther behind.
He was so pissed/persistent, that he pushed us up to about 100 mph (after 3rd gear I just started ******* with him. Keeping him just far enough/close enough behind me to give him hope.....It never happened).

My girl hates it when I drive fast, but even she had to laugh when she realized that "Mr. Cool" - in his brand new sport coupe - just got his *** handed to him by "Mom and Dad, bringing home pizza for the boys" in our 14 year old 4-door sedan. Stroller in the trunk, car seat in the back and all that. It was ******* hilarious.
I also ran with a new 330 the other day. He couldn't catch me at speed, but we did end up hitting a red light - and with his torque, he tore my *** up, so my numbers are definitely up there somewhere.
I can't wait to get an exact number. I'd love to know what this stock turbo is capable of.

If you want more power after experiencing a chip, you will need to start looking into turbo upgrades. If you think 215chp is a lot, I have 320awhp in my sedan and I would like about 200 more.
Stage 1 is nice.. for about a month, then you get bored and want more. Like redline said no way in hell are you making 200 whp with a k03 at 17 psi, you won't reach that number unless you crank the boost and timing way up and supplement that with a dash of meth injection. There are people running more boost on a FT barely cracking 210-220 whp, if that helps give you some perspective.
Speaking of clutches, I'm really liking my Valeo SMF kit. If you're not planning on anything bigger than a k04 or FT it's a perfect, and really cheap too.
Also, save us the street racing stories, that ****'s for teenagers. Nobody cares that you pulled on a stock BRZ and broke the speed limit. We all like to put our right foot down every once in a while, but bragging about hitting 100 mph on a street is just childish.

Not even close to 200 at the wheels. It depends which chip you got, but you are probably around 215 crank horsepower. Drivetrain loss is usually around 20%, so 215*.8=172awhp. And it is probably a little under that even because the car is not new.
It depends where you want to go from here. I would recommend saving money for a clutch. I know mine didn't last long when I had a chip. I picked up an avant as well and the clutch would slip and that only had a 195hp chip in it. .......

I also already have a new (single mass) HD clutch and flywheel,
My car is also FWD, so I'm not trying to transfer power to all 4 wheels.
Do the math on that and tell me what numbers you come up with.....and remember: my car is a 2001.5, so it came with 170 hp stock.

As for the "street racing stories": If you don't like them, don't read them and/or don't comment on them. Who are you to tell me what to post? I don't care if you like to hear them or not. We all do the same **** once in a while, so stop trying to be the "fun police". If you're tuning an Audi, then you've done the same ****. Quit being a hypocrite. It's not like society is going to read this and frown upon us all. That sort of thinking is worse than childish
I state that as my opinion, not as fact (see the difference).

I didn't buy some ready made chip. I had an entire ECU re-programmed at the firmware level. I had the timing and fuel delivery maxed out, the redline bumped up to 7100 rpm and the boost bumped up to 17psi.
I also already have a new (single mass) HD clutch and flywheel,
My car is also FWD, so I'm not trying to transfer power to all 4 wheels.

If your car is FWD, it is probably closer to 175-180fwhp.
I don't care how much HP your car came stock with, they all have the same after a chip since they all have the same hardware or very close to it.
I find it funny how you're trying to lecture me on tunes and chips, I wrote the tune I'm running in my car (with the help of nefmoto of course). I think you're confusing a chip with a piggyback system because the only difference between flash and a chip is the physical flash chip soldered to the PCB.
I'm just saying there's absolutely no way you can make anywhere near 200 whp on a k03 at 17 psi, it's just not physically possible. I get that you're excited about more power, but don't go pulling numbers out of your *** expecting people with more experience to believe you.
There's a reason lots of auto forums (probably here too) have rules against street racing stories, it's a bad look for the community as a whole. The whole concept "if you don't like it then STFU" is ridiculous, some people need to be called out on things they say. I'm free to speak my mind just like you are, and my opinion is street racing stories are childish and remind me of when I was still in high school thinking I'm hot **** and the coolest guy ever. And no, I've never gone 100 mph down a street because I wanted to show some random guy how awesome my car is. From a risk-reward perspective that's an absolutely retarded idea.
