1997 A4 1.8t auto cruise control issues?
My cruise control has not worked for a while, but I'm going on a long road trip soon, so I was gonna fix it. First things first, I consulted my owners manual, which told me that fuse #11 was the CC (Automatic transmission) fuse. So I open up the fuse box cover, and there's nothing in the #11 spot. Not even reception for a fuse (it just hangs there loosely). What's up with that? The owners manual (original one) doesn't say that its vacant, but it appears to be just that. Any ideas?
It stopped working after I had the instrument cluster replaced. Worked on the drive in, didn't work on the drive out.
Thanks

Its not the fuse. I have the exact same car. Its the module that is located behing the glove box. Well above/behind. You just have to lower the glove box down to get to it. There is some soldering that needs to be done on the relays in the circuit board. Or you can find a junker and get the box out of it and plug it in like i did.
You can find thread on exactly what to solder in the audiworld forum it has pictures. So if your handy with the iron you can fix it yourself. I wasnt very handy when i tried. haha
They also have them on ebay from 10-50 bucks just search (5GA 004 397-16) its a silver box

Often it's just dirty contacts in the stalk switch too. I removed my control box and soldered the capacitors too, but that didn't fix mine. What fixed it was spraying some plastic-safe electronics contact cleaner inside the stalk switch and working it back and forth many times. I think the contacts inside the switch must be made with some high-silver content metal that tarnishes easily, because I have had to repeat this process every few months to get it working again.

That is a possibility, but you don't know enough to make that call. There are a lot of points in that system that can make it fail. The switch on the stalk, switches on the brake and clutch pedals, vacuum system, etc.
Go through this well written, thorough write up.

Thanks guys. My car is at the mechanics right now for an unrelated issue, they're gonna have a look at it. I'll definitely keep these suggestions in mind.
Edit: Ok, so I sprayed the stalk with contact cleaner, and now I can hear a faint click as I press the button/brake, but it still won't turn on... is this cause it's not physically linked up at the throttle end? Or could the module still be the culprit? I don't even know where it connects to the throttle body.
