My 98A4 quatro 2.8 looks nice and clean. I washed the engine too, and now no reverse. Just goes right into it and stays as though in N. Also states I am in N when in R.
Now assuming the worse, and I need to replace the entire tranny can I have a 5 speed installed from the same year?
I would prefer a easy cost effective rebuild, or hoping maybe I wet a sensor or something???
Did I mention I am suppose to drive to NYC tomorrow? LOL
Any easy things to look at before bringing it to an expert?

If you can drive the car go to a autozone or something like that and have the car scanned. Your tranny should give some kind of code. Or find someone in your area who has VAG-Com. Where do you live?

I live in Stamford CT. BTW the car has 131K, and runs fine. I live near an autozone and will stop by to check it out.
