1998 A4 Quattro engine problems
Hey folks,
Bought my first Audi last year and love the car! With that said it suffered the oil starvation problem that plagues these cars as per what I was able to learn via the forums. Audi wanted more than I could afford to fix it, so I had an out of work buddy fix the problem. He dropped the pan prior to dropping the pan I had ran Sea Foam green through the car to see if it would clear things out, made the car smoke very, very , very badly! Also schecked the oil pressure I was getting 32 psi. Dropped the pan and cleaned the sump screen ( which was clogged) once the it was put back together I had great oil pressure (right around 60 psi) . The smoke problem never went away, the engine stalls, and the catalytic converter glows bright red, I also have horrible oil consumption. My guestimation is the following, I noticed the flexpipe just after the exhaust header and before the cat is gone, and I believe the turbo is cooked (or atleast the seals are gone). I don't want to get rid of the car, and cant afford to get it repaired at the shop. I am looking to do this myself. My question is do any members have any experience with this and do es anyone agree with my theory. If not what else could be the problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
