Flywheel has been installed wrong, friend installed a flywheel on b5 s4 and car wouldn’t start, it would keep cranking and cranking but nothing. Pulled it all apart and reinstalled flywheel properly and worked fine. Flywheel looks to be installed at any direction as long as it bolts on etc but no it can only be installed one way, I would look into reinstalling the flywheel.

I found out later that they had shipped the wrong starter. Although it fits its too short to engage flywheel

 

@Matt Mankinen could you list the part number for the correct starter you found please? I am have the same issue. I just bought my first TT mk1 and the starter I bought was shorter in length compared to the one I removed. I would really appreciate your help. Cheers!
