Default 2001 1.8t 5spd trans problems! help!

I just resurrected a 2001 1.8t quattro and after a high speed test drive today I ran into transmission trouble. I believe it is a AWM motor not sure of the trans.

While driving it seemed to slip second gear causing it to redline. Limped it home and did a couple of test drives and this is where I'm at...

When car is off it seems to shift fairly smoothly through the all gears. Fairly being I have driven worse but not as smooth as it should be.

When the car is idling with the clutch compressed it does not shift through all gears smoothly and will "clunk" and "stutter" as I motion through the gears.

While Driving I have to almost force it into any gear. It will engage but slip under load. The clutch is relatively new according to service records and has been engaging just fine for the past 60 miles or about 20 test drives.

I'm not to familiar with these cars or this transmission any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any ideas? I'm really hoping my tranny didn't just take a **** on me

I'm willing to bet your clutch is shot, not the tranny. I would check to make sure the linkage is in good shape first though. Even if the tranny did take a dump, they are only $200 at a junkyard

I'm not ruling it out but judging by how well it drove I don't believe it is the clutch. I also don't know what other parts are related like a slave/master cylinder? I've heard of linkage issues and people doing a flush and a dogbone add on. Idk what this dogbone add on is but seems to have helped with similar issues. This will be a learning curve definetly.

Also $200 trannies are not easy to come across on the Jersey Shore. Not even the ones in the redlight district

try car-part.com. there is a Quattro tranny out of a 99 going for $250 in Williamstown. If you use an older tranny, you need to swap the flanges. the rest is bolt up and go
