2000 a4 won't start but cranks
I have a 2000 a4 1.8t. A week ago I came home from work parked it as usual and when I came out the next day it wouldn't crank, fire nothing. I traced the problem to the starter, not getting 12v. I replaced the starter and selenoid and now it cranks but won't turn. There is no spark and fuel is not coming out of injector. I hear the pump prime. I looked at all fuses looked at the wires and all seem good. I hooked up a scanner, not vag, and it said it couldn't connect. I was thinking the ecu could be bad? I heard that there is no immobilizer until 2002 in NA audi's. Also one of my friends friends has a vag com so I'm gonna try and borrow it this weekend. Any other ideas would be amazing. I was gonna pick up an ecu tomorrow as there is one at a junk yard close by me for ~100.
Also about 6 months ago did complete timing belt kit and car has ran perfect since but I have not checked the timing but would that cause it not to completly start? I saw one one thread where someone said that was the cause of their problem but I except it to at least start unless belt broke but again didn't see anything like that.
Called the dealer and they said that the immobilizers started going in late 99 but that it would at least start for a few seconds before dying. Going to pick up a vag-com scanner tomorrow hopefully will know more then.
ok so I hooked up a scanner and it said error that it couldn't connect. I checked the fuses for the ecu, wires etc and all were good. I tried the scanner on another vehicle and it connected fine so I'm pretty sure the ecu got fried somehow. There is one at a junkyard near by so I will update Monday evening when I get it. Also, the stock radio is in the car so the K-line should be fine no?
maybe someone can answer this though, If I had esp on my audi wouldn't there be a button for it above the radio? I did a search and my ecu is 4b0906018p which means it has esp no? and is that ecu interchangeable with 4b0906018m?
If there's no spark AND no fuel, that seems to say the ECU isn't being told that you want to start the car. Ignition switch death possibly? If the switch goes and doesn't send current out where it needs to go, then the coils and ECU won't know to fire up...
Starter cranks
Fuel pump relay is good
Fuel pump runs
All fuses are good
Fuel rail contained fuel
My mechanic says the injectors were not receiving any signal to "fire"
Spark plugs looked dry
Can NOT communicate with the ECU through the OBD2 port even with multiple diagnostic tools. He has been able to do so before since I'm a frequent customer.
Turning on ignition switch doesn't turn the CEL light on (as it usually does along with all the other lights on the dash)
Thoughts?
