hi i just bought a 2001 audi a4 quattro and the power steering is leaking..i have attached a pic showing where its leaking from...also that piece in the picture turns by hand is it supposed to?..need help do i need to replace the whole rack or can i fix it?

so it cant be fixed at all? if i was to swap parts from another rack? dont really want to take the rack out unless i really have too

 

Oh you really have to. You know what "blow power steering rack" means? Means all the seals inside are bad. Now you can rebuild it. Its damn near impossible and the benefit doesnt offset the cost of a new one. You can not swap parts from another one, because thats just a bad idea. Buy refurb, put it in.

 

Has to come out 65efi. End of story.

If you paid the dealer to do it, the labor would cost you about $600. So just set aside a Saturday and tell yourself you're going to make $600...oh and that's after tax $$ too. How often do you make $600 after taxes for a day's work?
