So I"m headed to my car after college, just as usual. Hop in the car, throw my crap in the back, drop the windows and start it up. Right away I get the 3 beeps of imminent doom, and freak out. My eyes go straight to the lcd, and it's just sitting there displaying the temp and other various crap. No warning at all.

So what gives?
I turn the car off and restart it, no beeps. Haven't been able to reproduce this at all. The car had been sitting for a little over 3 hours, nothing out of the ordinary. It was down a quart (its been sipping oil ever since the last change) and I added 5w30 Mobile1 Full synthetic. No leaks, nothing out of the ordinary. The self check thing where it lights up all the warnings works and (mostly) is legible. Ideas?

 

I wouldn't start the freak out quite yet
Possibly ABS module starting to go or vacuum leak

find a VAGCOM and get a scan

 

Are any of your dummy lights not coming on when it tests them when you turn the car to on?

 

haha definitely not a vacuum leak-I mean a vac leak would not trigger any beeping. It could be fluke, but it you get 3 beeps without a warning lamp then I'd guess someone disconnected your airbag or ABS/BRAKE lights from the cluster. Although, 00+ don't have removeable bulbs that I'm aware of, I could be wrong. If it was a warning from the lcd it would continuously beep every now and then as you drive, and you'd have a red warning symbol.

Yeah the self check passes all the lights, and abs/brake lights do work... Maybe it was a fluke

 

just go take a reeeaaaalllllyyyy long road trip through some areas where mechanic help is very sparse and see if anything goes wrong
