Default '96 A4 Quattro tire fitment

I have a 16x7 OE wheels with Eibach lowering springs (~1"). I was trying to put 225 50 16 tires and was told that there was only a few mm clearance inside against spindle/suspension parts i.e. not enough room. Should this size tire work with maybe with spacers, any other ideas ?

Thanks, Steve

Depends on what struts you're using. I'm guessing you're using the Proline Eibach springs, also?

I actually just got the car used. The prev owner said updated springs, nothing of shocks/struts. I suspect stock struts but I can check. WHat is the implication?

Thanks,
Steve

If you have Proline Eibach springs, and stock struts, that is going to cause a HUGE problem!

Those springs have a very stiff spring rate, and they're meant to only be used with an upgraded strut. If you start getting into wider tires or spacing the wheels, you're going to start rubbing everytime you hit a bump, or take a turn any faster than 1MPH... Seriously, I'm not kidding you, haha.

When I had my '94 Honda Civic, I had TEIN S-Tech Springs, and Tokico "Blue" Shocks, and 205/50/15 Kumho Ecsta MX tires on the front... Every time I took a turn faster than from a dead stop, all you would hear is "BRRRMMMMMMMMMMM" and that was the fun sound of my tire rubbing into my freshly painted fenders. [:@]

So I had to upgrade to Koni "Yellow" Shocks, and stiffened the Hell out of the fronts, and never had a problem with it again, no more wheel rub, and the car handled like a dream.

That's my advice from my personal experience.
