Default '96 key fob programming issue

Replaced the battery in my remote, but cannot get it reprogrammed. I used the AW tech article about the 96 remote to try to reprogram it (1 key in ignition, lock door with other key, hold down both buttons) to no avail; I have tried switching the keys used. I have recently replaced the battery in the car, I'm assuming this affects the remote as well, could it have changed anything about the transmitter in the car? The frequency maybe?

Any thoughts?

Try this: Hit unlock, then use the same key to unlock the car. Put that key in the ignition and turn it to on. WHile on, press unlock and wait for the door lock click. You're done.
