Exclamation 97 a4 1.8t leaking anti freeze, what is this hose?

Hello all,

97 a4 1.8t here, and the thing is gushing anti-freeze just recently. If someone can tell me what hose this sounds like in the explanation below, it would be much appreciated.

Ok, the anti-freeze reservoir has a rubber hose/tube that comes out of the bottom and then this hose is connected to another much wider hose that then connects into the bottom of the engine(or somewhere). It is leaking(dripping all of the contents of reservoir in about 2 minutes) right where this second hose in the network disappears into the bottom of the engine. Right on the seams where the metal meets rubber.

So, what is the connecting hose here called and what seals it if anything, and what is the sealant, tube, etc, called. If you have no idea maybe you could point me in some direction. If you know what this is, maybe you can fill me in on the price to do this job at a dealer. OR, if this is something that can be done by a mechanical inclined friend, if you can suggest the parts that are necessary, much appreciated.

Thanks much

you can go to vagcat.com and get the schematics for your engine and it will also tell you the part numbers for the hose your looking for. bring that number to the dealer and buy a new hose. not exactly sure which one your describing but it shouldnt be terribly hard to do yourself. you can probably find the hose at an online retailer as well, probably for a little cheaper.

that tank is called the coolant expansion tank. the hose coming out the bottom is connected to the lower coolant hose, the small one coming in connects to the upper coolant hose. there arent really more specific names for them, just part numbers, which are available in the link i gave you.

which of these are you talking about?
