you said when you looked under the car there was alot of sludge buildup and oil there? be sure that it isnt the rear main seal. This is a wear part that get replace every 100K +-. but if its a valve cover that is a simple procedure you can do and if its the crank breather that is the easiest of all. I dont see how it would be a crank breather that could cause that much sludge and oil. but i havent seen the car. and also[sm=ttiwwp.gif]

Ray, I have had very similar issues with my 2.8l. I should have it back with new valve gaskets and oil filter housing gasket installed today. Do you think 2 valve cover leaks would cause enough oil to come down underneath the car and blow back underneath it?

Dude I have the same problem!!! I initially replaced both valver cover gaskets.
Now I'm getting burning smell and some white smoke on the rear part of the engine passenger and driver side. Also the oil coming down and blowing back underneath...
Have you fixed it?? WHat was it?

No way thats way too much. It took me about an hour to remove and re-install the intake on my 99.5 1.8t. And to answer the valve cover gasket question, 4 hrs is way too much. I did mine in less than an hour.

i had a terrible leak in the oil filter housing that sprung up literally overnight. i never lost more than a few drops of oil between oil changes, and i parked my car one night, woke up and there was a puddle of oil under my car. i put more in, and it came out as fast as i put it in. i was driving it around for a week putting oil in it every day. i had finals, my dad literally just had a heart transplant, so i had absolutely no time to fix the car. anyways.. yeah, if it was the oil filter housing, wouldn't be be spraying oil everywhere? this is on a 2.8 btw.
