Default 97 CD Changer Questions

I bought a 1997 A4 and it did not come with the cd changer. I want to buy one and was wondering if I have to buy the same model that came in it from the factory or if I can buy any brand cd changer and hook it up. Will I still be able to operate it from the factory stereo in car and can I purchase pin adapters. If I have to buy one on ebay will I be able to just hook it up to the pin connector in trunk and how do I find the model I need. I would appreciate any help.

I'm not 100% sure that all of them came wired for the stock CD changers. If they did, I'm sure you could find one, maybe on Ebay like you said, or here in the classified section?

I'm not sure what you mean by "pin adapters", do you mean an adapter to make an aftermarket changer work with the stock head unit?

I did a little looking and found somethin here: http://www.partydown.com/subcat95.htm

Good luck!

You can use one from any VW/Audi of the same vintage, I think. There was only one part number when I worked at the dealership (1997-2001), and if I remember correctly, the cable is pre-wired and you just have to connect it in the back, put two phillips in and you are done. There was a update to the radio through the Can-bus, but I doubt you need to really do it for the changer to work correctly. Good Luck!
