Default 97 dv

Can't believe I'm making a DV thread.... But, I got around to replacing the DV on my 97 with an evolution motorsports dv (thank you, arif). I never really paid any attention to how the 97 (just the 97, I think) DV location and plumbing is very different from other year B5's. I ended up with more scratches and cuts on my hands than when I removed the tranny! What were the crazy Germans THINKING?! So yeah, the DV I took out was the original with 170k on it. It seems to operate ok, but the vac line was fossilized and cracked. I just gotta hand it to the other members w/97 1.8 who r&r'd their DV. If I ever told you it was "simple," I'm sorry. It's nothing like on my 00 where you just jack up the passanger side, slide under there and bam

HAHA the one thing that the 2.7T engine has that is easier than any other car!!! WOOT!

Try and take a picture... I would like to see where it's at. I know where it's at on the 99.5 and 01 and it's still not super easy. LOL

This thread says/shows it all:

The worst part about it is the crimp part of the 1 time use clamps were positioned so that you cannot take them off very easily, or at least without taking everything around it appart. I'm just so amazed that this turbo plumbing has not been disassembled within the last 170k. It will be interesting to see how this turbo performs under load once I get it rolling.

It's a tight fit with an aftermarket dv. It sits within milimeters of the rad. fan.

There is no danger.
