Default 97 fwd seems sooo much faster than 01 quattro

Today I drove a 2001 1.8t quattro and my 1997 1.8t fwd seems so much nippier and faster, they are both stock. Is there that much of a difference between fwd and quattro?

That is because the 97 FWD is going to be much lighter then the 2001 quattro. As for power the quattro will actually make 10% less power at the wheels vs a FWD making the same power at the crank. So this means that 170hp 2001 quattro is making the same power at the wheels as that 150hp 97 fwd.

97 fwd = 132whp
01 quattro = 132.6 whp

So yes the 97 feels quicker because its power to weight ratio is higher.

Now once you start making more power on those 2 cars the quatro is going to have an advantage because it will be able to put that power to the ground. Once you reach 300whp on the FWD A4 all you end up doing is spinning those 2 front tires.

There might also be the off chance that your car's engine was healthier than the quattro's.

Yeah that is another factor, but the 200 lbs difference is also a big factor.

yeah seeing that you still just push the throttle to the floor to go. lol

My time from 2001 still stands as the quickest A4 1.8t K03 setup, so DBW cant be all that bad.
