98 A4 sunroof help
I have a 98 A4. I bought a known working sunroof switch from someone and replaced it with my sunroof switch and still nothing. This was about 2 months ago. I just noticed the other day my sunroof was open. So I play around with the switch and it works normally like it should for about 2 days. Now back to not working whatsoever again. It will work for a day or 2 then not work at all. Very strange. I tried taking the sunroof switch apart and cleaning the contacts, etc and no help. When the sunroof does work it, sometimes when I try and close it it will close to about 90% closed then open back up then I have to close it again for it to stay shut. When it doesn't work it also does not work by holding the key in the lock position in the door. I'm confused on what the issue can be. I looked at the comfort control module in the trunk and there is no corrosion or anything from water. It closes and opens fine with the manual crank. I also regreased the tracks and there in nothing that would be blocking it from moving. Is there a relay or something to check or does the switch have to be reprogrammed maybe with vag com or something? Im at a loss here.
Nobody has any idea? It is definitely something electrical because the sunroof will randomly work perfectly at one time then won't work for 5 days, then it will work again for a day or 2. The sunroof slides perfectly when it does work and when you close it manually it slides perfectly also. Anyone have any ideas before I rip off the headliner and go searching through wiring/relays, replacing sunroof motor..

You won't find any wires pertaining to the sunroof behind the headliner. Clean the switch first and see what happens

When you cleaned your switch, did you pull the contacts back up some? If you pull them up a little they will push with more force against the part they are sliding on and give better contact. My sunroof would randomly pop up and then close every once in a while. I cleaned my contacts in the switch and pulled them up a little and it fixed it.
Ah, man I did miss it! Well there are no wires up there anyways. I have never heard of a sunroof being programmed by a vagcom before. Are you sure the plastic guide rails are intact?
Yes, when I cleaned the switch I bent the contacts back a little. The switch is good because it came from my buddy's car that the sunroof was working just fine. I also don't think it has anything to do with the switch because the sunroof does not close when you hold the key in the lock position in the door. I don't think a slider broke since it closes and opens smoothly when it decides to work, and when I close it manually with the tool. Ill check the plastic guide rails again but I don't think that is it either since when it does work it works fine. Also when it doesn't work I hear no clicking of relays nothing. No sound from the motor trying to engage or anything. It has to be some kind of electrical problem not related to the switch. I just don't know what it could be.
