I have a 98 audi with drn tranny in it. I bought this car and was told it has a bad tranny. The problem is when you start the car put it in drive it slips than you will here a clunk and it puts the tranny in limp mode and drives normal and doesn't slip in that gear. The only tranny code it comes up with is g38 which is the speed sensor in the tranny that i have replaced already and didn't help

Neutral safety swich , those are very very sensitive and if in limp mode the tranny works fine that should be your problem but would not hurt an oil and filter change if you are there, to remove that u need to remove rhe left side trany mount is a little bit of work i recomand getting alldata from autozone online for your car

 

Have you had a similar problem.. When the tranny goes in limp mode the gear that it sticks it in works just fine but that's it.,
