99.5 Bose stereo upgrade

I'm somewhat of an audiophile, albeit one on a budget, but I'm thinking it would make me a lot happier if I upgraded the Bose system in my new 99.5, for several reasons. First, I definitely want to be able to plug in my mp3 player and use it in the car, second I want more control over the sound than just the bass and treble. As far as the Bose setup goes, its not bad, but nothing extraordinary for sure. I also notice a fairly strong rearward bias to the sound, it really sounds like more of the sound is behind me, even when I bias the fader to the front speakers, which really annoys me.

I'd like to keep it under $500 or $600 and I already have an amp and 2 10" subs in a box that I took out of my old Acura. Like I was saying, I really prefer the sound to come from in front of me, so I'm thinking of just installing good front door component speakers and subs in the trunk.

My questions are mainly about what size front door speakers I can fit in there. Some sites say I can fit 5.25's, some others don't have any size listed. Is that correct that I could fit some 5.25's in the front doors? Another question is about my current Bose system, which seems to work fine, any idea what I could get if I sold off the pieces from the factory Bose system? I'd be removing all of the Bose speakers as well as the stock amp, I'd be buying a nice smaller amp to send full power to the front door components.

Any other pitfalls to avoid in replacing the sound system?
