Default A4 1.8T B5 Engine Problem?

Hi,

Just noticed a whirring sound coming from my engine, really noticeable at 50mph and above. Only started doing it last week.
I don't know much about cars to be honest, there is no smoke from the exhausts, it isn't a knocking sound.. more of a rhythm.. if that makes any sense. The turbo is pulling well, no loss of performance and has plenty of oil.
Any ideas would be great,

Thanks

John

Horrible description!!

But..Your use of the whirring and rhythm make me think maybe it's a wheel bearing. Is this high pitched or low? Unless your absolutely sure it's coming from the engine, I would say it's a front wheel bearing.

i agree with the wheel bearing lift th car ont he side you think is the bad one (or do both) and shake the wheel and see if theres play.

Thanks for the advice guys, sorry about the poor description.
I think I'm gonna get rid of the 1.8T anyway, i've been offered a low mileage 2.4.. gonna miss it though /
