In 6 years my A4 needed nothing but normal maint. and wear items replaced. Here's my cost break down for my S4 since last March

Purchase: $9000
VCGs and other seals, wheels, suspension, boost gauge: ~$2300
timing belt / wp service: $1000
rebuild top end, new turbos, exhaust, Samco hose kit, 034 intake, other misc "WWIT" item: ~$6000
currently at the shop for new torque converter: probably another $2000

add to that the 3 months of down time, Feb 20 to now minus 1 week where everything was good before TC shat the bed.

I love the S4 but in retrospect i wish I would've just got another 1.8 or 2.0T. My wallet can't take much more.

edit: The avant has only 82k currently. Turbos were not bad but engine was already out so I replaced as much as I could afford.

I know that. I'd rather pay someone to do right the first time (something I often fail to do when working on cars) add that the saved frustration and time. If this was something I was trying to do myself it probably would never get done. I am not going to work 40+ a week then spend the whole weekend laying on the floor of my garage.

I was only conveying my experience with the S4 thus far, not catch **** because I pay a shop to work on it.

If everyone diy'd there would be no shops like 034, EPL, etc. putting out new products for old Audis. People like me keep those places in business, then they can turn around use that capital to R&D new products.

I like to understand how it works and be able to talk to the guys at the shop with some knowledge of the cars, that's why I am here.
