A4 1.8TQ Cold air/ Intake opionions
So I know they don't do a whole lot but which intake would be better for my 1.8TQ Quattro (specs in sig) I want a carbonio but I'm broke. Here's this one that a guy did:
VWVortex.com - DIY: Cone Intake for $80 Cdn.
Then here's a k&n legit cold air
K&N 57-0515 57i Series Induction Kit Cold Air Intake Easy To Install | eBay
Which one would be more efficient/powerful? I can afford either so I just want the best choice

The ebay link you listed is for the 2.8 engine.
If your goal is power (based on your current setup), then doing an intake will not provide noticeable gains. Heck I sometimes switch between a cone filter and a stock airbox with high-flow filter (both with a proper BlinkTek heatshield) and notice no difference other than noise.
Carbonio also won't have noticeable gains on a stock turbo.

Well I'm going to get a ra4 clutch and a ko4 turbo pretty soon, what is the advantage to the heat shield? If that something I should consider with the stock air box?

Even with a k04 the stock box will do.
I did my own intake similar to the one you linked too on vortex. I used and aFe cone filter and connected it straight to the maf. If your doing cone then a heat shield is a must or else you will heat soak like crazy with the filter inches from the exhaust. They are easy and cheap too make or you can buy a blinktek like stated above.

I felt reason for pulling the stock box was more for engine bay room and makes for easier filter changes. Thats about it. You will not feel 1hp of power difference and if done incorrectly you will be losing hp.
Don't bother with the K04. Just go with a Frankenturbo. Nearly identical price, but the FT offers significantly more power. And keep your stock airbox and do the Darintake mod. That is cutting holes the bottom of your airbox and then cutting matching holes in the fender liner.
