Can anybody point me in the right direction please?
My 97 B5 A4 2.6 v6 auto has done 155000km and has recently started to miss under light engine load when engine temperature is warm. Spark plugs were renewed. Audi dealer's diagnostic machine apparently doesn't cater for "old" models. Dealer checked as much as possible coils, leads - no arcing and visibly all in order. He suggested replacement part substitution of coils and leads but these have to be imported (into New Zealand) and there is no refund on theses parts if they do not solve the problem.
I note too that the idle speed sometimes takes time to return to 750-950rpm when stopping the car at traffic lights. Has anyone got an idea as to what the problem could be?

 

after my car sat over the winter the battery died and when i sarted it back up it would misfire and not accelerate properly. I did every thing from new plugs to new wires to testing the coils. Nothing worked....i did a throttle body adaptation and within seconds the car ran stronger then ever....if you did everything but still cant find the prolem with the miss i suggest doing a throttle body adaptation...YOU WILL NEED A VAG-COM .....all the ways people say you can do it with putting the key in waiting however many minutes hitting the gas opening the door and hood ...none of those theoretical ways work.....only way to do a throttle body adaptation is with a VAG-COM....none of the other "Key in engine off blah blah" techniques work.......try the Throttle body adaptation with a vag com thats just something i did as a last resort for my misfires and it worked.

Well - the A4 is going fine now. To cut a very long story short, the auto transmission fluid was contaminated. Despite previous requests to have it changed I was advised by dealer that the "sealed for life" transmission was just that. Well the "sealed for life" transmission actually needed a filter change, clean and new fluid. Now this is done, the tranny is presumably sending good messages to the computer which in turn is sending good messages to ignition system.
The end result is NO missing and a smoother tranny as a bonus.
I hope this post assists somebody who experiences similar issues.
