A4 B5.5 with engine code AUG is this normal?
ok so i bought an 01 Audi A4 1.8t quattro like half year ago so i save some money to buy me a timing belt kit. after a long research i found out that my car may well be a AWM engine because of the VIN number because my engine code say it is an AUG witch i never found such engine code for any year of Audis. last weekend i made the timing belt change, water pump and thermostat and everything fit right as it was an AWM engine. my question is, is it right to have an audi with engine code AUG form factory or previous owner change the ******* engine? is you guy think previous owner change the engine do you think i still have 170HP out of this engine or not? or is there any chances they only have change the engine head and left the AWM block? also the thermostat was by the alternator and water pump was internal not external.
any information will be helpful thank you guys.

You say A4 but then B5.5, which one is it? AUG never came on the B5 but it did come on the B5.5 Passat, it's the basically the exact same motor except the ECU tune only gets you 150hp or so from what I've heard. Oddly enough I haven't found any difference between ECU part numbers so there might be no difference after all. I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of AUG's made their way to A4's during production though.

They are the same thing. It will bolt right up. Afaik the only difference is the ecu tune. I know because I was the author of that thread. Not to mention the Aug block and crank are in my car right now

how much HP are you getting with that engine? and if i remapped/chipped it do i still get the same HP and torque as the AWM engines?
Yep, or it could've been just the head that was replaced for whatever reason. Either way, the motors are identical but it is a bit odd.
No. Compression won't matter much in your case. If anything you might see a bit more fuel economy. If you did see power gains, it would have to be with high octane fuel and a tune for it
