Default A4 motor swap

Alright, I guess I would say I am new to the Euro scene as I mostly just drive my Audi more then anything. Currently has 213,xxx miles on the 1.8l T 20v. Now I was gonna build a 240sx but with the situation I am in I just wanna do something with the Audi. What I want to know is can I swap in the 2.7l V6 Bi-Turbo 30v from an S4? I remember reading something about it but nothing that rings a bell. A simple yes or no will do but any descriptions or "You can if you do this..." would help.

Edit: in case someone asks, it's a year 2000.

You can put any engine in any car...if you have skills and tools, or money. We don't know how you stand on any of that. But with skill and/or money, it can be done.

Search the forum and you'll find close to a thousand such threads. There'll be a ton of info to answer this.

Yes. You will practically need an entire S4 front end, though, and preferably S4 transmission, S4 front axles (which would require front S4 uprights, and thus front S4 brake calipers and rotors), S4 center driveshaft (I think), S4 rear diff (if you go with the S4 transmission, because it has a different ratio than the 1.8T).

If you search you'll find that because of all the components needed (also: intercoolers, engine mounts, ECU, all the sensors, exhaust, radiator/hoses/fans, etc.), unless you find a S4 in decent shape that was badly rear-ended or something likely that, you're much better off just buying a S4 for ~$8-10k.

look into swapping a 4.2 v8 into your b5. A few good write ups on have been done in the past few years by guys that have successfully swapped a 4.2 into a b5. Check this one out

the v8 is harder than doing the 2.7 and would cost the same or there about.

Im about to drop a 2.7t in my a4 once its rebuilt

i leaned that way until i got a 2.7t for ultra dirt cheap. the only thing with the vrt is the parts needed to do it, if you can molest a vw, use every part and drop it in that would make much more sense but you need, new manifolds, tranny adaptor pate, mounts, stand alone, act. it totals up to much more. The end result would be much better tho

I like the sound of this, expensive. But easy and the V8 should be a much better motor than my 1.8t. The only thing I am confused about is what tranny to pick. Otherwise I am leaning toward the 4.2 V8.

you can use the 01a. from the a4. its not expensive you just need a motor and some engine management. fab some mounts. vr6 much smarter tho for the time, you have much room to improve, the v8 will run out of options quickly
