No 1.8 love here? I'm disappointed. I'd be more than happy to walk a stg3 S4 for you guys to clear up any doubts. Yea it takes money to build a fast A4, but its worth it in the end, and S4's ain't cheap to build either. Plus who wants to pull the engine out constantly. The only more annoying motor I can think of to work on is a subie boxer, or even worse a utility van of any make lol. IMHO, S4's are fun and very cool, but a big headache in almost every sense, while A4's can be McNasty and are pretty damn easy to work on.

 

^ Don't get me wrong. I love my 1.8T. The best engine VAG ever made IMO.
I just think it'd be much easier to make power on an S4 compare to a 1.8T. Though I'd give more respect to a fast 1.8T especially when it's Stage 3 S4 status.

Please do a run with a Stage 3 S4! It'd make my year to see you walk a Stage 3.

I have seen that vid many times, although its cool, its not an accurate representation of a fast and well built 1.8t. I can't remember the exact specs on BASSED'S car, but his turbo was pretty small and ghey. Not a GT series. It was a small Holset with a 55a/r if I remember correctly. That vid is like the bible for S4 guys in this argument. It's pretty weak. Let a real A4 get out there and things will be very different. Bassed can't brake boost or drive for **** either btw.
Krip, I just bought everything for a very nice high revving, cammed and valved head build. Sending it off to the machine shop soon. After its all back together, I'd love to line up any stg3 S4, especially OTS ones.

Its very simple. If you dont want to do mods or have plans to work on your own car just buy an S4. But it is not hard to make a A4 1.8t as quick as the S4. Even with a custom tuned K03 I was keeping up with stock S4's.

Even with a simple kit like the ATP elim an B5 A4 1.8t can run low to mid 12's on race gas. Better then most stage 2 K03 S4's.


Ian's(Bassed) A4 was quick in the rpm range used for the CAPS time because it had a .55 a/r exhaust housing on his S252 Bullseye turbo, thats why he talked so much crap. But once the car was taken above that rpm or ran thru more then 1 gear it was just slow because the turbo was choking. I drove the car and in 4 gears it was slower then a well tuned Elim kit. His CAPS time was about the same as my 800hp A4 1.8t, but if he ran against my car while I was using my power band his car would look like it was stuck in reverse. lol

CAPS and actual racing have nothing to do with each other.

Yea it was a lil bullseye. Many people mistake a good caps time for a fast car lol. This topic has been beat to death on many forums. All the S4 guys talk mad **** and use Bassed as their only example. It's pathetic. Obv there are very fast S4's out there, but a built BAT A4 ***** on any stage 3 S4 in existence, hands down.

 

what happens if those same "BAT's" on the 1.8T were planted in an S4?

Dont really matter to me. The way I see it is Audi FTW! If you get the S4, you get power alcantra seats, an actual S4 bumper (since most A4 try to convert to it anyway if they can), chrome window trim, and a faster car to start with. When speaking in terms of speed, you can make any car fast. Sounds better too IMO.
