Default ABS Control Module Rebuild

ok, did a search, turned up nothing, starting a thread...

I have the notorious ABS issue (http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec116.shtml) and need to rebuild my ABS Control Module because I'm sure has hell not paying 1900 bucks for a new ABS system.

Who's taken this route? Who did you have rebuild it? I'm considering the following:

http://www.modulemaster.com/en/index.php
- 160 bucks plus shipping
- includes a DIY and for some reason that makes me feel like they're more legit

http://www.autoecu.com/
- recommended in audiworld DIY
- ~300 bucks plus shipping (per DIY, couldn't find info on site directly)

http://www.allworldautomotive.com/au..._ots11276.html
- rebuilt modules available for 249 bucks

As always, any input is appreciated.

Thanks man...but u really think I should try and take this thing out and put it back in the repaired one myself. That would be like asking midget to dunk.

tons of people use module masters. there are also people on audizine that rebuild them for even cheaper. k0mpressed is one name that comes to mind.

Yeah... the DIY on this is pretty straight-forward. Don't really see an issue with getting a little dirty with this one, but then again car work isn't for everyone.

OMG... Those instructions are like much easier! I have a 2001 and the washer fluid reservoir is MUCH bigger than that. Mine covers the entire area and is a major PITA and mess to remove.

There's two ways to do remove the ABS control module. 1) The instructions shown above, BUT much harder for a 2001 which has a bigger washer fluid reservoir. You will spill washer fluid since you will need to drain it. 2) Remove the whole ABS pump unit which will leak brake fluid.

After having done both ways, my vote is to remove the ABS pump unit. I *don't think* you would need to bleed the brakes after this. I didn't and the pedal felt fine.

If you go by the #1 route, I can post pics soon. The major pita is draining the washer reservoir and trying to squeeze the 3 connectors to remove them.

Lastly, I used http://www.bba-reman.com/catalogue/D...iledProduct=46

It cost me $139 plus shipping (although I didn't pay shipping since I personally dropped off and picked up). I LITERALLY just finished installing this 1 hour ago.

I may be giving this k0pressed guy a look if my ABS module continues to screw with me, but I did a rotor/pad replacement tonight and haven't had any issues with the light turning on.

The only sense I can make of that is that my front passenger pads we almost gone but the rest were damn near new, so the ABS may have been giving some kind of warning that it wouldn't work when I needed it because of that... can't say for sure yet though. I only drove it for 30 mins after I swapped in new parts.

We'll see how it shakes out.
