Default ac heater problem

hey everyone so i am having a little problem when i turn my heater/defrost/ac temp control settings i start to hear a weird sound coming from under the hood. i asked a mechanic i knew if he could think of anything that it might be. this is without looking at it of course, but he said it could be the belt for the ac pump being off track or worn. is this what it most likely is. and if so how do i go about fixing it i want to do the work my self and i couldn't find any diys on it. i do have a bently manual but i want to make sure i know what the problem is first. thanks everyone

when u say u hear a noise, what does it sound like, squeal, grind, what? ur saying u hear the noise no matter what u turn on? it might be the blower motor since that's the thing that turns on when u turn any of those 3 things on. the heater doesn't have anything to do with the belt. the a/c compressor is hooked up to the belt. blower motor is behind the glove box

its more of a squeal/ whine noise. it only comes on when i turn the defrost/ heater on. if there is no air blowing through the vents it goes away. sorry i wasnt more specific, how hard are either of those problems to fix
