Default Air Bag Light on - 2000 b5 1.8

I downloaded the free version from Ross Tech and have an old ebay doggle. I pulled a code from the air bag section and it reads

65535 Internal Control Module Memory Error

00-10 - intermittent

But, I was looking for more specific info like which seat, etc.

Do I need to find a real VAG COM and have the reading done again?

I'm in the Clinton area of NJ, by the way.

I have the Actron reader that I use for engine codes, but it doesn't seem to help for non-engine codes.

Can autozone read air bag codes?

Thanks

Nope, you need exactly what you have for airbag lights. There's no info about which airbag or which seat because the problem is your airbag module, which isn't specific to a seat. Sounds like yours is on the fritz.

Airbag lights can only be cleared with Vag Com or an ECS code reader.

Just to be clear, the air bag codes can only be cleared with the Full Vag Com program?

And, I might get lucky and it stay off for awhile?

What is the story on sending the modules out to be rebuilt, who has had a good experience on that? Or what is a good source for a new one? I'm looking for options.

Thanks to all.

The free shareware version of vagcom will also read and clear airbag lights. CCA4 is correct - it's the airbag control module that's messed up. Check modulemaster.com about a rebuild - if they do them, it'll be quality.

My 2000 1.8t just threw the same code New Year's Day..
Mine shows up as
65535.V48023 Internal Control Module Memory: Checksum Error

=[
As much as I'd like to think it isn't, I agree its actually a fried ABS Control Module.
Opposed to the very common alternatives..
Like,
01218 - Passenger Side Airbag Ignitor (N200)
01217 - Driver Side Airbag Ignitor (N199)
00588 - Driver Side Airbag. Steering Wheel (N95)
and others, obviously. These are just the ones I've had problems with before now.
Checksum error probs isn't good but I'm hoping some of the "old *****" here can share their experience.

Mine's the ATW engine for those that care.

p.s. I love how my Quattro schools pretty much anything on the roads around here this time of year. But she's starting to make me pay up for all my happy endings!

A checksum is a controller/computer diagnostic test result. The controller will run a self-test, or the ECU will query it, and the checksum is the result. If the unit gunctions right, the generated checksum will match what the ECU expects. If there's a problem with it, the checksum will compute differently and won't match up. Given that as a fault, I'd blame the controller.

Well Lucifer, I would have been happier if you told us it'd all be okay and there was a simple DIY fix but noooooooo.
Not sure what the forum rules say about pasting a link from another site, so i won't, but I know there's a "cheaper" fix than replacing our G control modules.. some modules can be replaced with a much "cheaper" K module.

Thank for the info either way!
I hope the post originator gets the info too.

Yes there are, but this is the best of all Audi-related forums. =]
