Default Air Conditioning Cooling Fan

How free-spinning should this fan be? Mine seems like it's rubbing against the housing and is pretty difficult to turn, even by hand. When I turn it, it sounds like the fan wheel is rubbing the plastic housing, but I can't tell where.

What's involved with replacing one of those things? Does it require opening up the AC system? I just replaced two hoses and had my system recharged yesterday, so I really hope it doesn't have to be opened up again. Unfortunately, I didn't find out that the fan wasn't working until we tried turning the AC on.

Should be fairly free spinning. Doesnt have to spin like a pinwheel, but you should be able to with one light finger. They arent hard and you dont need to open up the A/C.

Anyone have a write up on replacing this fan? I need to do this soon before the REALLY hot weather gets here...that's the last thing I have to do to get my AC working again.

Ah HA!! After further inspection, I found that there was a piece of something made from rubber stuffed between the auxiliary fan and the radiator. I took it out and now my fan spins freely. However, it still does not work when the AC is on, unfortunately. I'm off to track down the fuse for the aux. fan.

What did you zip that with, Jim? Everytime I unarchive it, I get a duplicate file that's zipped.

Check your PM.

I'm on a Mac. Typically a windows zipped file will unzip on a Mac with no problem.

Anyway, thanks for emailing it to me. I'm going to start some troubleshooting tonight, hopefully.

I reposted the diagram with my Mac in case there's anyone else who needs it, and has a Mac.
