Airbag light on after installing headlight switch
Alright i broke my headlight switch in my B5. i went and bought a new swicth with the turn swicth, high beams, cruze and so on... The one at the stering wheel. steps i did...
1 - disconnect my battery
2 - took out my airbag, and disconnect the connector in the wheel it self
3 - took a few screws out to lossen the stering wheel , pulled it out a bit to take off cover. made sure i really didnt touch the CLOCK SPRING..
replaced the control switch..
4 - put everything back step by step
5 - connected the airbag, then connected the battery
turn on car everything is good. all switchs work perfect
ONLY problem is now " AIRBAG LIGHT" in ON
would anyone please help me as in what went wrong??
did i break the clock spring?
do i have to reset AIRBAG?
if someone knows or had the same problem please let me know what you did.
i wish i dont have to replace the clock spring. i heard its pricey.

Hi, I performed the same task except I just had to free the contacts in the switch assy, and I have my airbag light on also. From what I understand, you need the Vag-com to turn the light off. Still driving with mine on until I have time to visit my friend with the cable and software. Good luck.
The bag lights may be a fault in another airbag - the driver seat bag is notorious for throwing lights. You guys need to put your locations in your profiles - there's a very good chance that there's someone near you with vagcom and they may be reading this. If so, they may volunteer to help.
It is true the bag light requires vagcom to be turned off. Find someone who has it or get it yourself and do it - don't pay an hour's labor for five minutes' work.

if the battary was disconnected than theres no way in hell that light should even be there, when you start taking apart wires on a old car's clean the contact's and use a tie wrap to keep it all good and tight, now i have constant issue with my passenger seat and i fixed it with a tie wrap the light will come on once a month but i use vag com to turn it off
yeah i did disconnect the battery but when i had the stering wheel off i did but the battery back on because i needed my alarm to be activated. soo now by reading i think its just a Vagcom clean up. hopefully,
thanks again you guys.
by the way is there anyone in vancouver bc reading this and have a Vagcom?
cheers

I also reconnected my battery to test the light switch, since I did not buy a new one, just performed the repair. So the airbag was disconnected when the battery was connected. Thanks for the advice about adding my location. I will update.
