Default All this talk of Window Regulators??

OK...Ive search and it seems window reg are a big issue in these...BUT....
HOw do you know its failed? what are the symptoms. This has got to be my problem but want verification: ive seen that if its making horrible noises its about to go but.....

96 a4 2.8 Quattro. Front Pass windows Does not roll down. I HERE THE MOTOR RUN to up then to DOWN...but windows does not move. Its in the UP Position. Has this also been Jerry Rigged to stay in the up position as Id think she fall to the bottom.

Just want to verify that since I here the motor its gotta be this window regulator. Thanks for any comments!!

Also how do I know if I have auto up and down feature as I see there are two kinds...one for auto up and down and one without. Is this where If I shut car off with windows down they will all roll up?? Trying to figure out what the Hell I have on my hands!! LOL

well a window regulator has a power and a ground connection. just put a 12v power source on the power wire and see if the window moves. if not your regulator is bad. if it does move, you're button is bad

Even though I HEAR the motor run inside the door panel??

via both the pass door switch AND the drive side switch. Im pretty sure NOT my switches as I hear the motor run till it stops which I presume is the preset or whatever for the up and down.

if you hear the motor running you may have a bad track. take the door apart and check it out. http://www.audiworld.com/tech/int.html

Likely a broken cable on the regulator. Pull the inner door panel and look.

mine was do to the cable being wound up on itself and prevented the window from dropping all the way. MJM Authohaus has pretty good deals on regulators if you need a new one.
