Default All of you with a vdo gauge...

I have been reluctant to start this thread since i installed my boost gauge because the problem seems trivial but my curiosity is getting the better of me. for some reason my gauge makes a lot of noise. only at certain throttle positions though. it kinda sounds like a spring is vibrating or something. kinda like a zinggggg sound. just wondering if this is common in everybody elses gauge or maybe i got a bad one. something interesting about it though is when the car is shut off, it reads 1 in vaccum so maybe the thing isnt calibrated correctly. already tried messing around with the position of the hose. also, i kinda want a red backlight. will just any old led work?

that buzzing thing happens because the pressure is changing a small amount very rapidly in the intake manifold with each piston stroke. you need something like this...

basically its a T fitting except the part that supplies the pressure to the boost gauge is a very small hole so that any variation of pressure isnt instantly seen in the gauge, which smooths out the needle and gets rid of the noise.

i bought my gauge from 42dd and also bought a red LED and the install kit which included the special vacuum restrictor t-fitting and have not had any problems.

any LED will work assuming you wire it properly. but, you'll be on your own trying to make sure it fits in the gauge properly. why not just buy one thats made for the gauge? IIRC theyre only like $6

Mine came with a little red bulb 'condom' if you will. I'd assume it fits over the led thats in there to change the light color. I didnt use it so I can check if Ive got still and I'll mail it to you if you want it.
