Always check yourself
So I thought I'd just share about what happened with my car this weekend. I had blown one of the shocks from my K-maxx coilover in the rear. I've been really busy with work and just haven't had the wrench time to fix it so I took it to a "reputable" tuning shop in my area to have the work done. After I got my car back, I went over a somewhat bumpy road and it felt like my rear was almost sliding. I got back to my house and you would not believe what I found. I tried to take pictures but the lighting wasn't the best. The mother f'ers had...get ready...put the bolt that holds the bottom of the coilover in the place where the alignment bolt goes. And likewise, the alignment bolt was holding the bottom of the coilover. They had stripped the alignment washer so that there was no notch in it. That rear end slipping was my wheel sliding cause the ******* bolt was in the wrong spot and there was nothing there to keep the bolt from sliding. I called them and told them what happened and they said for me to bring it back in. How was I supposed to drive it there and plus, I wouldn't show up there again for anything! I managed to swap the bolts and went to a buddy to mock me up another ob longed alignment washer until the stealership can get me a new set in. It just goes to show that you should always check the work you have done. In someways though, maybe had something bad happened, I'd be in the RS6 forum right now lol. But seriously, its always a good idea to double check. Had I done that, I could have solved the problem right then and there.
Ironic you said this, not as dangerous as you but I've never had an alignment done since dropped, I also wanted lifted a little cuz I''m killing my fenders! They said they'd do it (they did the install) and just charge me 1hr labor, I've been busy so said why not, I got home it it seemed a little off so I've let it settle I have FD and RP at 24.5 (what I wanted) I have FP at 25.5 and RD at 23.75! I havent called them but if I lift it it's going to need another alignment so I'm going to call them out on it and adjust it myself and them HOPEFULLY free alignment! This shop has always done good work but sometimes just off!
I'm not saying that work done at a shop is going to be bad, it's just that people make mistakes sometimes and it doesn't hurt to double check. Just to make matters worse, I went to go grab something to eat about 20 minutes ago and my allignment was waaaayyy off. I thought something was broken or had come undone. The end result...a flat tire. Looks like I have to dig the stockers out until I can get new tires....grr..
Just goes to show you how clueless people are. Last month my family and I drove down to Florida for vacation. On the way back the alternator on our Ford Excursion died. Fortunately we were able to get off I-95 and found a brand new, very clean hotel that accepted pets. Anyway, long story short, AAA sent a flat-bed truck the next morning. Unfortunately, it happened to be a Sunday. Being from New York, it was very strange to us that the nearest repair shop was a Pep Boys 50 miles away in Williamsburg VA. We would have done the repair ourselves had we brought the right tools. Anyway, we arrived at the shop and they pushed the car into the garage. It took 20 minutes for these guys to figure out how to open the hood. Then, they tried to jump the battery (don't ask me why). Being it's a diesel engine the car has two batteries. The mechanic put the jumper cables on the terminals of one battery and nothing happened. Then he removes the cables and puts them on the other battery LMAO! If you want something done right you have to do it yourself. Other people either simply don't care or are too stupid to get the job done right.
