Another high mileage Audi question...
So I'm planning on getting my first car soon and I've negotiated a price for a 1998 A4 for $3400.00 Canadian dollars with certification and e tests included. However, the mileage is currently sitting at 204,000! The car itself looks sleek and has been stored indoors but I'm wondering, is this a good buy? Keep in mind I only need the car for the next 3-4 years and don't plan on having it last for several years.
Also, the owner has told me that there is a small oil leak and the ABS system is down.
Here is the link: 1998 Audi A4 2,8 Quattro Sedan - Mississauga / Peel Region Cars For Sale - Kijiji Mississauga / Peel Region Canada.
Should I buy this car?

I paid $4200 for my 1998 last month, only 85,000 miles, had to get rear diff seals replaced, valve cover gaskets/rear cam seals, and ignition wires replaced on it shortly after buying it. Cost of repairs were about $650.
So, just make sure you have some extra cash to fix some things as they come up, and I would check exactly where the oil leak is coming from 1st.... or just have a shop do a pre-purchase inspection for you before you buy it so you know what you're getting into.

The 2.8 is a very tough engine. It'll last quite a while. That said, I would only buy this if you're looking to do the maintenance yourself, otherwise it could be very costly. With 200,000 KM's on the clock, it would be a bad idea to not put in a new timing belt, water pump, thermostat, G12 coolant etc. Oil change with some castrol or mobil 1 full syn, any certified vw 501.00 oil. New spark plugs, check out your crankcase breather system and vacuum lines. You're looking at spending around 500usd to make sure everything is up to par.

OP, if you do not decide to go with this one, look for one 99.5 and up. If you've gotta pay 500 more for a facelift audi, pay it. It'll be worth it.
