Another just bought with ?'s (sorry)
Hey everyone,
I just bought an 01 A4, 1.8T, Quattro, manual. It has the APR 91 octane tune and the snub mount, everything else is stock. So here come the questions, and I have been searching A LOT... just need some quick input to help my priorities.
First question is, does anyone have experience with the True Flow foam air filters? I searched but couldn't really come up with a yay or nay on the subject. I found a site that has them on clearance for $25 or so (just a standard drop-in replacement).
Second has to do with the DV (trust me I have searched!)
I am contemplating getting the APR R1, or the Forge 007 for the basic reasons people like them, and since the car has the APR tune... but then I am also thinking about the 710N for the price. What would you recommend between the 3? I have no intentions to upgrade the turbo or anything right now.
I was thinking I could either get the APR or the 007, or save money and get the 710N and use the money I saved to buy a boost gauge.... what are your thoughts?
Thanks for your input!! and for helping another new audi guy!

Diverter Valves:
There are 3 types - Diaphragm valve (stock), Piston, and hybrid.
- The Forge 007 DV is much larger than the stock valve. Good Valve. Piston valve.
- I use the Stratmosphere HX compact - its only 10% larger than the old valve, same basic specs as the Forge007. Piston Valve.
- Dont go for the APR, it uses a diaphragm to divert the air. This diaphragm can break (this is the same as stock but bigger).
- The hybrid DVs blow off some of the air, to create the "turbo blowoff" effect. Dont do this or we will call you a subaru wannabe.

High quality replacements have a few advantages over the 710N.
Most are servicable, so you can take them apart and clean them and inspect them etc. The forge 007 uses a piston design which is superior to the diaphram design, also the springs in the forge 007 can be changed and spacers can be added to tune the response of the DV to your psi levels.
The downside is that they cost 4 times as much.

^^what he said! aftermarket will potentially last longer, but the 710n will probably outlive the car anyways. as for the filter it probably doesnt matter as long as its not oiled or you dont oil it. the oil clings to the maf and they get effed up
