Another suspension question
I have a 1998 a4 2.8 Avant with the sport package, which includes the sport suspension. I have spent quite a bit of time on this forum looking for information about my suspension and possible upgrades. From what I have found, my sport suspension is the same as the s4 suspension. It works well for me, but I want something stiffer and that will lower the car. At first I thought I would get some H&R race springs and upgrade the sway bars, but several people have said the race springs will destroy my sport shocks and struts. Instead of going all out and getting a coilover set, what are my other options? I looked at Bilstein's sport shocks and struts with the race springs from H&R.
Basically I want to know how much of a difference this will make, since I already have the sport suspension. Some people have said a setup like that would be jarring, but I wouldn't mind if it gave me an edge. Also what is the difference between the H&R sport springs vs. the race springs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

the difference between sport and race is the height which it drops your car and possibly the spring rate(most likely but I'm not positive). some people have run H&R Race on sport shocks, it just diminishes the life of your shocks greatly.
As for them being to stiff, it is totally preference, You need to if all possible get in a car with H&R/Bilstein's and take a ride to see if you like it or not.
hope this helps somewhat

either Koni or Bilstein or probably Vogtland, you would just need to make sure that they are sport shocks, which are made to take the different spring rates better of a stiffer suspension.
I've never ridden in a sport suspension but I would only assume that yes race springs would increase the stiffness a decent amount over your sport suspension. If you PM Kolbs_91, he went from Sport to Neuspeed Race springs (I think) and might be able to give you a better comparison than myself.
