Default Another thread about misfires (because I'm too lazy to search)

I got one, bad, on cyl 2. It's not the coil pack, it's not the spark plug. The plug (and exhaust) smell like straight fuel, so I don't think it's the injector. No visible, or obivous damage to the wiring harness.

What am I missing? It just started the other day when I was idling at a drive thru. Throw a couple ideas at me so I can try and do some troubleshooting.

Could the ICM cause a dead cylinder like that? I would expect random multi misfires with a bad ICM.

Anyones's thoughts before I just go buy one to check and see?

ICM could cause a single cylinder misfire. You said it smells like straight fuel though so I wonder if you have a leaking injector. You could swap it with another injector like you'd do with coil packs to see if the misfire follows.

By that, I meant you could tell it was getting fuel. I wouldn't rule out the injector, but I'm pretty sure it's the ICM.

And why not? Everything else has been dying on this car. Hit 150K and she want to head to the grave yard.

I follow this forum regularly, and in the past few months any time there's been a misfire consistently on cylinder 2, it's a bad ICM. Seems like it's ALWAYS cylinder 2 (maybe it's just me).

My ICM has been deleted for about 5-6 months now, and the old ICM is sitting in my garage (along with 4 AEB coils). It, and the coils were working perfectly fine when they were taken off... wanna take any of it off my hands?

I would, if I had already ordered one, and you had a newer one... Looks aren't the only thing the 99.5 "facelift" got.

But, your vote of confidence on the ICM being bad is encouraging.

I would check your injector. I once heard of one getting stuck open and making the exhaust and plug smell like exhaust. After that I would check the harness (resistance).

Replaced the ICM. All is well.

Moral of the story: A bad ICM does not always cause multiple random misfires (P0300). Sometimes it can give you a dead cylinder instead.
