you want to remove the piece of metal that is designed to keep an engine fire out of the passenger cabbin? brilliant!

Excuse my ignorance, but what could possibly be gained from removing part of the firewall?

this has to be one of those sand-porting method threads, but in the case that it isnt, that is seriously a bad idea and heres why. you will remember this thread if your fuel rail ever springs a leak onto a hot exhaust manifold. by the time you see the smoke your feet will already be getting warm. it takes you 30 seconds to stop and maybe 10 seconds to get out of the car. by that time the car is engulfed in flames. bad idea.

more accessibility to the rear engine components, ease of ripping out the motor when I need to, etc. I'm looking at it from the standpoint of making things easier to work on.

And I'm NOT talking about the main firewall. lol that would be ridiculous. I'm talking about the one between the engine and the battery...it's not really a firewall per se; not sure what the official name of it is.

so you're planning on ripping your motor out quite a bit? wut are you trying to do lol. i guess you could get rid of it. when you're taking your engine out, your front end will be off and everything is extremely accessible. mike@dth has a crazy built a4 and he's still got his secondary firewall. if you think it gets in your way, go right ahead and rip it out but i don't see how it gets in any of your way. it does help keep a little bit of heat away from your battery and ECU though
