Default Audi A4 B5 1.8t Engine Real World Torque

Hi All,

The is my first time posting. I have a 2001 Audi A4 1.8t, manual, FWD. It is stock - no mods. I bought it brand new and it now has 150k miles.

Audi specifies this engine as having 166 lb/ft of torque from 1950 to 5000 rpm. But I don't get max toruqe in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear until 2600 rpm. The feeling is obvious when accelerating from 1500 to 2600 rpm in those gears - I can feel it pulling harder and harder until 2600 rpm, then the pull is the same.

I believe the car has always been like this and don't think it's because the car is getting older.

Does everyone else have the same experience? It's possible the max torque is only generated at 1950 rpm in 4th and 5th gears, maybe through computer controls. It would really be nice to have all that torque at 1950 rpm in every gear. I don't even hear the turbo spooling until 1800 rpm (in all gears).

Note that I've found dyno charts for this engine in the GTI in years it had the same specs as mine, and they seem to confirm my findings.
