Default Audi b5 rear speaker amp.

Can anyone guide me as to what size aftermarket amp the standard factory rear amp wiring will take please?

I appreciate it will be very small but should I go on an aftermarket amps fuse size or wattage?

Stu.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

If you want to run an aftermarket amp, then just bypass the factory amp.

If you want to keep the factory amp, but don't have one, buy one.

What system do you have, Bose? If so, the amp has factory delay, phase shifts, high pass/low pass, etc. filters built into each channel's signal chain. If you're keeping stock speakers, an aftermarket amp will be louder, but most likely sound much worse than the original.

A popular mod is for people to take the Bose amp from a similar model year A8 and use it instead, as it was quite a bit more powerful (something like twice the wattage) and was plug and play into the OEM connector.

Very interesting to know!

If I have a 2001.5 B5 A4, what would be the best "plug & Play" upgrade?

Thanks (and sorry for the thread jack).

Hi,

I'm looking to get a set of upgraded rear speakers working that I was using with the OEM amp which has now died. Not interested in wiring up a bigger amp and having to run extra cable etc. Not Bose. The factory amp with rear speaker seems to be pricey on eBay when you add postage so I was looking at a different small amp.

The Bose amp upgrade is spoken about in this video:

I have read about it before. It's a more powerful amp but different EQ as it's designed to work with the A8 set up but apparently some prefer the sound change.

(My flash player crashed, so I can't see the video)

I don't know about non-Bose setups in the B5, but I have a spare Bose Symphony amp I'll sell you for $50, plus whatever it costs to ship it to you.

Thanks but I'm in UK and would need re-wire of car to run a Bose system.

The non Bose has front component speakers in doors powered by standard head unit and rear speakers in shelf powered by small Audi factory amp that is no more powerful than the head unit.

It's suitable for background music or chat radio not music!!

If you're talking to me, then yes: it should be a direct replacement. Just double-check the part numbers and/or pictures (to be safe).
