Question B5 Headlight Upgrades/Concerns

New to the Audi scene, and especially new to the do-it-yourself car scene...so bear with me people i was looking to upgrade the stock headlights on my '98 A4, and I wanted to upgrade my actual bulbs as well...i was looking at getting http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/96-97...ht_6239wt_1167, and I'm not sure what the difference is between 1pc and 2pc? Or if those are even legal in PA, which is where I live...so my question is 1) Are those headlights legit/can i install them with a little help and 2) What's the difference between Xenon/HID/Silverstar lights and which ones should i get/will they fit on both pair of headlights??

if you want to get the 1 piece headlights you will need to trim your fender i heard its not hard at all but i myself dont want to do that, but if you want to go with the 2 piece get the depo ones http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...d=180469996755 xenon and hid are the same thing i believe, so if you wanted to get HID you need to buy the kit http://www.ddmtuning.com/index.php?p...=102&parent=85 it is very easy to install the kit 10 min job
you shouldnt have any problems with the law as long as you dont go with too bright HIDs

HIDs will melt those housings, which given how they look would probably be best.

Get the DEPO 2 pece ecodes or get OE 1 piece from a 99.5-01 A4 or 00-02 S4.

www.partsforeuro.com has some nice head lamps as well.

one-piece conversion isn't that hard and is well worth the effort. see: http://www.audifreaks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1059

absolutely do not put HID's in the stock reflector housings, you'll blind everyone in front of you and probably get a ticket. Like McGov's said, make sure the lights you get are rated for Xenon's, they burn a lot hotter than stock halogen bulbs. the kind of bulbs you need will vary with the housings you use. as i recall, the DEPO one piece housings use H7, the DEPO S4 two-piece jobs use something else.

Does anyone even know what kind of projectors are in the Depo lights? I can't imagine them being all that great.

I'm sure they're not as high-quality as the Valeo e-codes, but they're also not $900. I like mine, the cutoffs are fairly sharp. Well worth the $200 IMO

You can try looking for a part out facelift A4/S4 or anyone getting rid of stock 1 piece headlights, then you'll have OEM quality and a fairly cheap price. As long as you avoid cheesy knock-off lights (you guys know what I'm talking about)

Slap on the HID kit and you're golden.

Or you could do a proper retrofit instead... Get parts from a place like Ebay or The Retrofit Source, etc. You'll end up with a better result if you don't botch the install.

Xenon - Pretty much the same thing as HID's. When you get a new car and you get the "headlight package", this is what you get. If you noticed some cars have the blue-ish tint headlights, those are Xenons/HID's. Supposedly these lights use less power but will project more lights since the bulbs are charged.

Silverstar - Regular bulbs that are supposed to be brighter than some. These aren't charged, so they work like any other bulbs in the market plus little tweaks here and there.
