Exclamation Bad coolant temperature sensor? 1.8t AWM

I noticed it takes about 30-40 minutes of driving for my car to get hot enough to reach the middle line for the temperature display. And im also getting 220 miles on a full tank (15mpg) driving like a grandma. Could a bad coolant temperature sesnor cause horrible gas mileage?

Now that i think of it ive been wondering why my gas mileage sucked the past week also. Maybe its the T-stat? I dont know about you guys but if im driving on the highway (1.5 miles from my house ) my engine oil temp only goes up a little, and coolant maybe 1/4 or a lil more. It does go close to halfway when idleing in traffic and such but never above.

when i rape my car and drive hard.my temperature goes from the middlr {4/8) too the next line (5/8} and when i start driving.normally it falls back down to normal. also when im done driving and i turn my car off and.i come.back a few minutes later my temperature is at 5/8 or 6/8 but.goes back to normal after a few minutes of the fan working. is this normal for it to heat up after the car is off? but my t-stat is fine i already checked that first. my main worry is my 15mpg.

Yea its normal if you are driving then before shutting off its like 1/4 or 2/5. Then get back in and start it like 20 min later and its halfway.

Also did you check all your other stuff? I know mine are fine because i bought the car about 10 months ago and these are the first things i did. But

Fuel filter
Spark plugs 0.32 Gap or 0.28 If chipped
Air filter
Oil change

I know when i bought the car, lady had all maintenance records etc, but obviously little things were overlooked. Car moved like *** when i test drove it, but i knew thats probably what needed to be done.

After that i pulled back onto the road and was a whole nother car. And then i chipped it a month later.

i bought this car with a blown engine and bad turbo. it has 155 k on the body. they literally did no previous maintainece on it. The cabin filter was literally crumpling apart when i pulled it out and the air filter was literally black. i changed the cabin, air, and oil filters cleaned the MAF sensor and.used fully synthetic 10-40 in the new engine. im going to change the coolant temp sensor, fuel filter, and check for boost and vacuum leaks because im pretty sure i have a leak somewhere.
