Default bad cv joint?

my quattro started making a high pitch sqeaking sound when i turn to the left and makes a weird grinding noise with a rhythmic clunking so i think it is one of the rear cv joints if anyone could provide some insight and help me out that would be great

A sequential clunking while making turns is a usual sign of a bad cv joint. Check the boots to see if any are ripped and/or leaking grease.

Sounds like you could have more than one problem. Bad cvs usually rhythmically click when turning, not really clunk. A high pitch but non-rhythmic, just tied in with what direction you turn the wheel, and if you are stationary would be control arms. Did the noise start with something less audible than a clunk?

started as a squeak then went to a clicking sound not so much a clunk, and if this is occuring when i turn to the left would that mean that it is the on the left side?

If you still have the squeak its probably a separate problem. Usually, the damaged joint is the one opposite the direction turning, this is because the outside wheel has to turn faster.. So if you turn the wheel to the right and it clicks its probably the driver side that is bad, you really should be able to tell be the sound. Then to verify, jack the car up and or take of the tire, the bad joints boot is probably torn and has likely thrown grease everywhere.
